Want to Paint a Mural?

Several years ago, Victor Hiking Trails, Inc. received permission from the New York State Thruway Authority to paint a mural on the wall of the ex-railroad underpass used by the Auburn Trail, just northwest of Fishers NY. A request for proposals was sent out. And the winning entry was "From Ideas to Iron" by Emily Waldman. Over the course of several summers, while dodging school, she executed an extraordinary, large, mural that was dedicated October 28th, 2018.

Existing Train Mural

Detail pictures of parts of this mural can be seen in VHT's Photo Album and seaching for mural.

This mural is part of VHT's "Art Along the Auburn" effort. There are a number of art pieces adjacent to the Auburn Trail. Many are in the neighborhood of the hamlet of Fishers.

Now, VHT has permission to commission mural(s) on the other side of this underpass. We have decided that rather than one big mural, it will be a series of independent murals by different artists. It will be divided into sections 10 feet by 10 feet each. An artist can propose for one, two, or three sections, that is up to 10 feet by 30 feet. The theme of each is to be History of Victor. This can cover anything from the first inhabitants thousands of years ago to today. We expect the resulting collage of people and events by various artists and styles to be exciting.

This is an open call to ALL artists.

Applications must be received by VHT by May 31, 2021. Selected artists will be notified by June 15, 2021.
